Crafting Sound Design and Surreal Soundscapes for Film
In this psychological scene from Hierarchy Lost by Andrzej Dragan, I was responsible for both sound design and on-set sound recording. The project involved designing a disturbing yet immersive soundscape that supports the surreal tone of the narrative — as well as capturing clean dialogue, ambient takes, and practical sounds during production.
The audio was entirely created from scratch, including ambient textures, breath work, physical foley, and emotional accents. The core idea was to reflect the protagonist’s inner tension through a gradually intensifying audio environment that resolves into silence when she returns to the physical world.
Working closely with the director, I aimed to blur the line between inner experience and external perception — using layered atmospheres, processed breathing, mirror resonance, and tension-building transitions. Every detail, including the twist of the faucet and quiet fabric movements, was recorded live or recreated with foley and then enhanced in post.
This short excerpt showcases how sound design can shape atmosphere, mood, and psychological depth — even in a minimalistic, dialogue-free scene.
